Resources for Caregivers

Creating Excellent Caregivers

Solutions Community Wellness provides a comprehensive suite of trainings to all of our caregivers. The  Kinnections Caregiver Training Program was designed by behavior specialists, industry leaders, and curriculum experts. All trainings are delivered online through the Teach:able platform, and use a range of modalities and assessments including narrated slides, video, quizzes, and extended learning activities which are reviewed by program supervisors to ensure each caregiver achieves a standard of excellence.

Orientation

This program introduces all new staff to FSG and Kinnections. Key concepts include guiding philosophies, an overview of Kinnections’ clients and their needs, as well as an overview of the role of caregivers.

Medication Administration

This program introduces all new staff to FSG and Kinnections. Key concepts include guiding philosophies, an overview of Kinnections’ clients and their needs, as well as an overview of the role of caregivers.

Guiding Behaviours

In this program, staff discover how to identify behaviours as key methods of communication. They learn to challenge traditional misconceptions about challenging behaviours they may face from clients, and how to build relationships and rapport with all individuals.

Commonly Seen Disorders

Staff who undergo this training learn how to recognize and help to manage the disorders that are often experienced by Kinnections’ clients. Strategies specific to each condition are discussed, but the general importance of rapport-building and people-first approaches is also stressed.

Suicide and Self-Injury Awareness

In this module, staff learn how to define both suicide and self-injury, which often involves un-learning common myths and misconceptions about both. They will be able to identify signs that a client may be at risk or already carrying out self-injurious actions, and make a plan for supporting clients in need.

Documentation Training

All Kinnections staff undergo this training, in which they learn all processes and procedures related to documentation. This includes timelines (when particular documents need to be submitted), best practices, and the importance of objectivity (observation versus interpretation.)
