Kinnect House Program

The Kinnect House Intensive program is a team delivered, clinically monitored intervention program.

The Kinnect team works collaboratively with atypical children and their families to address problematic behaviour patterns, identify existing strengths, and set goals to develop new skills. Families and kids are supported by clinicians and family workers to integrate practical patterns that will strengthen and better equip both the child and family for success.

The child/youth is supported to stabilize in a part-time, out-of-home, staffed living arrangement for 3 nights a week. Parents are also supported to increase their skills and to implement personal self-care strategies through our Break Night program. This specialized placement offers a break for both the youth and family from the tension and negative patterns that may have become a part of the family dynamic.

The child or youth stays at the Kinnect House a few nights a week.

The Kinnect House is a specialized, semi-residential placement for the child or youth. The home is in the Summerside neighbourhood, close to our main offices.

Staying at the Kinnect House allows for the child to stabilize, learn new behaviour patterns, and begin to feel successful. During that time, the family works in coordinated partnership with their Kinnect Family Worker to increase their skills for supporting their unique child.

While at the Kinnect House, the child’s behaviour patterns and needs are reviewed. Positive patterns of intervention are targeted for development. The Kinnect House’s clinically-informed program also pinpoints underlying issues and works to rebuild the whole family’s skills and confidence in their ability to stay regulated and connected.

Kinnect Intensive Stream Placement

Kinnect house

In this full week program, the youth lives in the Kinnect House three nights per week to assist with stabilization. This treatment placement offers a break for both the youth and family from the tension and patterns that may have become a part of the family dynamic.

Treatment Host Home

Not all children or youth would benefit from staying in the Kinnect House. However, many kids and families benefit from accessing respite, and family breaks, with a specially-trained Level II Host Home Family.

Caregivers participate in Break Night Training

Break Night training for caregivers combines instruction from Parenting Specialists and Clinicians with the opportunity for individualized Parent Coaching. At weekly Break Night meetings, caregivers are taught new skills and are supported to develop the behaviour management, mental health, and communication skills designed to help them manage their high-needs children.

The Kinnect House program typically runs over a 9-month cycle that can be extended when it is in the best interests of the child and family. Break Night is led by clinicians and behaviour specialists, and can be taken in person or online.
